Dresden
Dresden is located about two hours drive south of Berlin and is currently the capital of the federal state of Saxony. The old city of Dresden is in fact a rare reconstruction of a Baroque city. Therefore, it offers a glimpse to the extravagant palaces where the Saxon royal family spent its fortune, to the Zwinger and the Dresden Semper Opera. The recently reconstructed "Church of Our Lady" (Frauenkirche) would provide us with an opportunity to discuss the disputes regarding the bombing of Dresden during World War II; and to analyse the politics of the reconstruction efforts. A tour to Dresden could be integrated with a stop over in the Spreewald, the unique bayou-like area just south-east of Berlin; with a visit to the porcelain city of Maisen; or to the castle of Moritzburg.
