Alternative and Street Art

From a militaristic and fascist capital to a center of freedom, alternative lifestyle and arts, Berlin has made a name for itself. Though alternative lifestyle and freedom are not new characteristics of this city. When looking into the foundation of the Weimar Republic - the first established democracy in Germany, one can truly understand it’s post-modern flair. This tour offers a wonderful opportunity to experience the unique aspects of the city that made Berlin the cool place it is. Especially during the Cold-War, when West Berlin was an enclave within East Germany, the city attracted students, anarchists, hippies and artists like David Bowie. This avant-garde, non-institutional atmosphere of Berlin, though under threat today, is still visible in many parts of the city. We will dedicate time to discuss the squatting culture in Berlin, the Graffiti scene and the artistic scene while admiring iconic street art works. On this tour we will visit neighborhoods such as Kreuzberg and Schöneberg that offer visitors an insight into Berlin today as the Berliners perceive it, away from the touristy areas.
